Magician and illusionist for holiday parties, weddings and corporate receptions, performing visual close-up magic and a compact stage set.

Format

  • Strolling close-up for cocktail hours and holiday parties.
  • A 20–30 minute stage set with visual illusions.

Room requirements

Nothing for close-up; a cleared performance area, a microphone and dimmable lighting for the stage set.

Close-up, stage, or both

A magician and illusionist who works both close-up and on stage gives you flexibility in how the evening runs. Strolling close-up magic during cocktails reaches guests in small groups, breaks the ice between departments and gives partners who know nobody something to talk about. A compact stage set later in the evening brings the whole room together for one shared moment. For holiday parties of more than about a hundred guests, combining the two tends to give the best value: guests meet the performer early, and the stage set feels like a payoff rather than an interruption.

What makes the stage set work

Visual illusions depend more on the room than close-up work does. Ask for a clear performance area at the front that everyone can see, ideally on a riser if the room is large and flat. Lighting that can be dimmed in the audience and brightened on the stage makes a noticeable difference, so check with the venue whether its controls can do this. Avoid placing the set while dessert is being served or the bar is busiest. A well-timed slot is straight after the meal and before the dance floor opens.

Weddings and corporate receptions

The same format adapts well to other events. At weddings, close-up magic fills the cocktail hour while the couple are away for photographs, and a short stage piece can open the reception after dinner. At corporate receptions, the performer can work a product or company message into a routine if this is discussed early enough to prepare.

Before you book

  • Confirm the guest count and how long you need strolling magic to last, so the performer can say whether one person can reach everyone.
  • Share a floor plan or photos of the room, with ceiling height and where the stage will be.
  • Agree arrival time, set-up time and where props can be stored securely before the stage set.
  • Ask whether any part of the act uses smoke, fire or confetti, and check the venue's rules on each.

December dates fill early, so contact performers soon after you have confirmed the venue. The guide to hiring a holiday party magician covers formats and costs in more detail, and the holiday party entertainment guide shows where magic fits in the order of the evening.
