Accessibility (AODA)
EventPlans.ca is for everyone who plans, attends or works at events, including people with disabilities. We are committed to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and to removing barriers wherever we find them.
What the site does
- Keyboard navigation. Menus, forms, calculators and Academy quizzes can be used without a mouse.
- Contrast. Text and controls are designed to be readable in both light and dark mode.
- Alternative text. Meaningful images have text descriptions; decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Captions. Where we publish video, we provide captions where possible.
- Plain language. We write in clear, direct sentences and explain industry terms in the Encyclopedia.
- Structure. Pages use real headings and lists so assistive technology can move through them.
Where we fall short
Some content comes from third parties, such as vendor photos or embedded maps, and may not meet the same standard. Older pages may have gaps we have not found yet. We would rather hear about a problem than have you work around it.
How to report a barrier
Use the contact page and tell us the page address, what you were trying to do, and what got in the way. If it helps, mention the device, browser or assistive technology you use. If you need information from a page in another format, ask and we will provide it.
You do not need to use any particular wording or know accessibility standards to report a problem. Describe what happened in your own words. We treat barrier reports as a priority, tell you what we plan to do, and let you know when it is fixed. Feedback can also be given by anyone helping you, such as a family member or support person.
Our approach
We build accessibility into the site rather than adding it at the end. New tools and pages are checked with a keyboard and with screen reader software before they go live, and we review older pages as we update them. When we have to choose between a visual effect and a page that everyone can use, we choose the page that everyone can use.
Accessibility at events
Accessibility matters off the screen too. Our guides and Academy lessons cover accessible events in practice: step-free routes, accessible washrooms, companion seating, captions or ASL on request, service animals, quiet spaces, and asking about access needs on the RSVP.
EventPlans.ca aims to meet WCAG 2.1 AA, as required by the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
- Keyboard navigation and visible focus states throughout.
- Colour contrast of at least 4.5:1 for text.
- Animations respect your reduced-motion setting.
- Every tool and form is labelled for screen readers.
Found a barrier? Tell us on the contact page and we will fix it.
